FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DualPROXTM reader launched as two-year litigation battle with PAC ends

1 June 2000 -- JTi Technologies Limited announces today that all outstanding legal action by PAC International Limited ends in the High Court with the sealing of a consent order.  PAC had been pursuing various claims of breach of copyright against JTi with regard to JTi’s DualPROXTM proximity reader technology.

PAC International Limited - a leading UK manufacturer of access control equipment, believed that the DualPROXTM reader is a major threat to their business.  In an attempt to protect their position PAC launched an action in the High Court in London followed by a breach of copyright action against JTi.  After the first action was withdrawn and cost awarded to JTi and then after nearly two years without progressing the copyright claim, PAC have consented to withdraw all their claims, this brings to a close their legal challenges.

John Kay - Managing Director of JTi Technologies Ltd says:

“We believed at the outset that PAC’s actions were without merit.  In my opinion they have been using the legal system to try to stifle legitimate competition and deprive the market of an innovation and highly cost-effective product. The DualPROXTM Reader is a great innovation within the proximity market.  Many end-users and especially those within the local authority market have become tied to one manufacturer or supplier for their cards or tokens, readers and system. Because of their captive situation they are often being charged premium prices.  By using the DualPROXTM Reader the end-user has an extremely cost effective choice to either keep their existing tokens and use another system or to mix PAC’s old and new identification devices, together with JTi’s identification devices all on the same system.

The DualPROXTM reader is able to reading all of PAC’s versions of tokens and cards including its newly release 125kHz cards and tokens a feat that PAC have not been able to achieve themselves.”
